During his teenage years in Lima, Peru in the mid 80’s, Carlos was the bass player and co-writer of Thrash Metal band “Curriculum Mortis”. Their first material was recently released on a U.S. vinyl edition and sold out 1000+ copies in the first year of release.

Novalima became a big success with its first self-titled album on the Lima music scene and they soon signed their ” Afro” album with Mr. Bongo Records based in the U.K.

The song Machete was licensed to the world famous Robert Rodriguez “Machete” movie starring Danny Trejo and Robert De Niro. Later on Novalima released the album Coba Coba which was nominated for the 10th Latin Grammy as Best Alternative Record.

Plugging Music salute the Japanese Fighting Fish it’s Foo’s but better and more original

BBC 6 Music faves Japanese Fighting Fish unleash new single and album  “Swimming with Piranhas”

In 2009  the mysterious Ishii christened the Leeds theatrical space funk rock band Japanese Fighting Fish and they continue to blast out tunes in his honour to this day.

The Fish are no longer what they once were: in 2011  debut album “Just Before We Go MAD” experimented with South American rhythms, fierce vocals  and grunge guitars.

2013 saw the release of the punkier and louder second album “Day Bombs”  recorded in several skuzzy garages in Leeds and London on a considerably lower budget than the Foo Fighters album that inspired it.

Now the theatrical beast returns with third album “Swimming with Piranhas” this time recorded at Air-Edel Studio in London, mastered by Tim Young (Everything Everything, Elbow, Massive Attack, The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Beatles ) and injects hooks  fuzz  funk and S P A C E into the Fish Tank.

J.F.F  the band has racked up an impressive resume  including busy summers alongside the likes of Wild Beasts, The Stranglers  and Babyhead at Shambala Festival, Beat-Herder Festival, Weyfest  and Beacons Festival.

The video “Don’t Wanna Be Bat  Man” received 145k views in its initial week on Facebook and the band has received continued support and air time from Kerrang, Planet Rock  Absolute Radio  and Amazing Radio  and more recently from BBC Introducing and BBC 6 Music with the single “Queen Marilyn”.

J.F.F are likened to Faith No More, Electric Six, System of a Down, QOTSA, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primus  and Frank Zappa.

The Tom Robinson Show   – “What a glorious noise”

BBC 6 Music – “Oddball Leeds/London noise terrorists on the verge of greatness”

BIG CHEESE Magazine – “Quirky  angular guitar hooks crushing riffs and a sense of flair and humour”.

The brand new single is “Close the Gate”.

Plugging Music chats with Icelandic star Kria–Read the full interview

new new aawal

Tell us about yourself ?

We are ice cold. KRÍA is from Reykjavík, Iceland. I began playing the piano when I was six and I was in various choirs up until my late teens. Then I began taking classical singing lessons in my late teens. I wrote my first song when I was 21 and that’s when I began using garage band as well. I write and produce all the songs for my project. For the live performances I have two drummers . Adam who plays the drums is from Warrington and Nathan who also plays drums is from north London.

Band members / instruments played ?

KRÍA – vocals, synth, sampler
Adam – Drums
Nathan – Drums

When did you start your music career?

I was writing and producing songs that I was really happy with in 2013 so id say that thats when it started. I was studying the institute of contemporary music performance studying creative vocals and that’s where I made my first EP low hype and self released that in august 2015. So I started gigging on my own around London since then and then the drummers joined in December.

How did your band form? Where does the name come from?

it was really inorganic how the band met lol. my manager put up an ad out for drummers on star now. With the name i asked my mom what i should call my project and she just said ‘KRÍA’. KRÍA is the Icelandic word for an arctic tern (a bird).

Where are you based?

Your main influences/inspiration?

for now its space, aliens, horror movies, the hidden people from Icelandic folk tales, ghosts and stuff. The streets, GusGus, I know it’s a cliché but also Fever Ray, Massive Attack

About your release ?

Sonically, i drew inspiration from horror films, time traveling and aliens, as in how i imagine time traveling would sound like and how aliens would sound like.
the material is more selfish than on low hype, the lyrics are about how i was dealing with myself at the moment and accepting my self. My second ep is called ’altaka’ im going to be releasing it in 4 parts. LEVELS will be my final song from the ep aiming for the 1st of August so around then I guess. I have 2 singles being released as a concept duo at the end of July.

Who was the producer / studio where recorded ?

KRÍA – also produced with Rupert Roberts, Rotem Haguel and Jak Kobayashi-Owen. Recorded and produced in my bedroom in Lewisham and in Ruperts flat.

Where can we find you online ?

KRÍA’s second E.P was produced by Rupert Roberts, Rotem Haguel and Jak Kobayashi-Owen. The E.P is entitled “Altaka” and features the brand new single “Levels”.

“Altaka” will be released on Rare Candy Records on 1 August 2016.

Screen Shot 2015-04-14 at 13.34.51Kamikaze Test Pilots are an alternative rock band, originating from Zimbabwe where brothers Ryan and Wes Niemandt grew up.

The band was formed in 2005 in Zimbabwe but relocated to the United Kingdom where they were joined by bassist Simon Buckett in 2009.

The line up now consists of Simon Buckett (Bass/guitar), Wes Niemandt (Drums/vox) and Ryan Niemandt (Lead vox/guitar).

Kamikaze Test Pilots draw their influences from bands like System of A Down, Soundgarden, Clutch, The Melvins and Alice in Chains and have recently supported Nick Oliveri of Queens of the stone age.

The band’s sound is entertaining with a hard rock edge or, in their own words: “Kamikaze Test Pilots is, as the name suggests, a contradiction: a no-rules, non-conforming suicidal mesh of influences and a sound that reinvents itself with each new song”.

Kamikaze Test Pilots deliver a powerful rock sound with melodic vocals, chugging rhythm, guitars and searing solos that have already been played on BBC Introducing, Total Rock, Rock Radio Germany and Amazing Rock.

What the press say:

Metal Hammer – “A grooving and soulful approach to hard rock that’s aggressive and odd”.

Big Chees – “Totally bat shit crazy and I love it”

Rock City – “Different and worth checking out”.

Their self-titled album “Kamikaze Test Pilots” was produced by Bobby Bloomfield (50 Cent, Linkin Park, P Diddy ) and will be released on 11 May 2015 on Matchbox Recordings with distribution from Universal Music Operations.

Album tracks “Perseverance” and “Better Way” are destined for mainstream radio while the single “Dinosaur” is suited to alternative rock/specialist shows.
